Dopo la furiosa “guerra civile” scoppiata al termine dell’incontro disputato con i cugini agordini ieri sera ho trattenuto per una decina di minuti uno dei migliori giocatori acquistati della società asiaghese quest’anno per indagare un po’ su alcune questioni tecniche e personali: Trevor Johnson.
HT: Ciao Trevor, vorrei una tua opinione a caldo sul match appena terminato…che cosa è successo alla squadra, sembravate tutti molto arrabbiati!
TJ: Guarda, è stata una partita molto intensa, vissuta con un alto tasso di emozione, peccato per i minuti finali che sono stati condizionati da quelle penalità a mio parere abbastanza discutibili, che ci hanno impedito di vincere la gara, ampiamente meritata credo. Abbiamo giocato tutti molto concentrati, perché volevamo vincere la partita per poter sperare di arrivare nei play off; nel primo tempo abbiamo speso molte energie, vedi soprattutto la nostra prima linea quanto ha fatto stasera. Gli altri due tempi sostanzialmente abbiamo fatto qualche errore di troppo a causa della distrazione, ma siamo anche stati in grado di tenere sempre in mano le redini della partita, purtroppo poi è successo quel caos e loro ne hanno approfittato per pareggiare.
HT: Ancora una volta avete preso goal in inferiorità numerica…è successo troppo spesso in questa stagione: quale errore commettete maggiormente?
TJ: Purtroppo quello è il nostro punto debole, troppo spesso gli avversari ci trovano sbilanciati e segnano, dobbiamo ancora lavorare moltissimo per migliorare la situazione.
HT: Come giudicheresti nel complesso il lavoro svolto fino ad adesso dalla difesa? forse un maggior coraggio nei tiri in superiorità numerica avrebbe dato qualche soddifazione in più?
TJ: Nel complesso abbiamo svolto un lavoro diligente, cercando di coprire le zone nel miglior modo possibile; sai poi è tutta questione di un attimo di distrazione o di confusione e subisci il goal. E’ tutto talmente veloce, il ritmo è talmente alto che se perdi un secondo di tempo per qualsiasi motivo gli altri ti puniscono all’istante purtroppo. Noi a volte abbiamo quasi paura di tirare, dobbiamo quindi trovare una soluzione in fretta, perchè è sempre quello il problema.
HT: A proposito, tu probabilmente stai vivendo una delle tue migliori stagioni in Italia; molti tuoi goal sono stati importanti, poichè sono arrivati nel momento migliore.. ma dimmi, quale segreto per realizzare i tuoi missili dalla blu?
TJ: Nessun segreto sai, semplicemente nelle situazioni di power play ognuno di noi cerca di trovare l’apertura vincente; io personalmente carico al massimo la potenza e il resto viene naturale. E’ una casualità comunque che i miei goal arrivino dalla blu, diciamo che in genere mi posiziono li, per cui i miei tiri partono da quel punto.
HT: Nonostante abbiate attraversato un periodo molto difficile all’inizio dopo la morte del vostro compagno Darcy avete saputo reagire con orgoglio e grinta, ma poi i vari fortuni vi hanno nuovamente fermato…come avete affrontato tutto ciò?
TJ: E’ stato difficillissimo all’inizio come puoi capire, Darcy era il nostro pensiero, noi giocavamo e giochiamo per lui, sempre, ma i primi tempi la nostra mente era molto offuscata, ma ci siamo fatti coraggio, la nostra stagione doveva andare avanti, per forza. Poi il periodo dei tanti infortuni ci ha di fatto sottoposto a delle prove estenuanti, sai, giocavamo con 2 linee, eravamo tutti stanchi, infatti, nella prima parte della stagione non abbiamo giocato molto bene, poichè non ce la facevamo più davvero.
HT: Tutta la stagione è stata molto intensa, alcune squadre hanno disputato una regular season fantastica come ad esempio la tua squadra precedente, il Renon: quale secondo te il mix vincente necessario per arrivare cosi in alto?
TJ: Il Renon è senza dubbio una squadra molto forte, ci sono tanti stranieri interessanti, italiani esperti e ad un buon livello, poi hanno un portiere fenomenale…il segreto forse sta nell’avere a disposizione stranieri di valore, che vadano a completare quello in parte apportato pure dagli italiani, per formare un’unica amalgama. Pensa ad esempio che io l’anno prossimo sarò italiano, Surma pure, si libereranno quindi già due posti, si potrebbe quindi acquistare già due forze in più e intanto far crescere i nostri ragazzi perchè c’è ne sono di molto in gamba sai…ti nomino come esempio il Matteo Tessari, Testa, Basso e un po’ tutti, basta che loro diano sempre il meglio del meglio di se stessi.
HT: Vorresti dare qualche consiglio agli addetti ai lavori per migliorare la situazione attuale dell’hockey in Italia?
TJ: Prima di tutto ti parlo dell’hockey dei giovani in Canada cosi posso farti capire cosa voglio dire di preciso: in Canada c’è la Junior League, una lega probabilmente tra le più forti del mondo, in cui i ragazzi possono crescere e arrivare fin dove vogliono e fin dove sono in grado di arrivare. Il livello è molto alto, qui in Italia i ragazzi a mio parere non hanno invece la possibilità di esprimersi al meglio, perchè manca qualità nei loro tornei e campionati. Io sono convinto che se ad esempio il nostro Matteo Tessari andasse in Canada per un periodo tornerebbe poi qui in Italia cambiato totalmente: sarebbe velocissimo, avrebbe un’altra tecnica, un altro modo di giocare…in Canada è diverso il modo stesso di approcciarsi all’hockey! Si dovrebbero quindi apportare modifiche in tal senso, modificando anche i metodi di allenamento e tutte le altre variabili possibili.
HT: Ma dimmi un po, quale sogno avresti tu personalmente nel cassetto? mi puoi rivelare in anteprima se ti rivedremo l’anno prossimo ad Asiago?
TJ: Il mio sogno segreto che adesso non lo sarà più è quello di vincere lo scudetto, magari qui ad Asiago… alla seconda domanda ti rispondo che l’anno prossimo io tornerò sicuramente, per l’anno successivo vedremo, ma spero di si perchè Asiago mi piace moltissimo!

After the "civil war" exploded at the end of the game of yesterday with our cousins "Agordini" I have made a couple of questions to one of the best players buyed this year from Asiago Hockey just to find out something about the technical and private questions: Trevor Johnson.
HT: Hi Trevor, I would like to hear a your opinion about the result of the game? What’s happened at the end?
TJ: Well, it was a fantastic game, very intense, unfortunately last minutes have prevented us to win the game, because of some disputable penalization by the referee; I think we deserved to win the match! We were very concentred because we wanted to win the game hoping to arrive to the last part of the season, that’s to say "Play off". During the first period We played very intense, We consumed a lot of energy, think especially about our first line, they done 4 of the 4 goal of our team!
Other periods We played not with the same concentration, we made some mistake, but we have always keep the control of the situation, unfortunately what’s happened later has given to Alleghe the chance to arrive to 4 to 4!
HT: Once again you suffered a goal when you were without a man… it happened too times this season: what’s the reason?
TJ: Unfortunately that is our weak point, very often the other team take advantage of our displacement and they score. We have to work very hard to get better this problem.
HT: What’s your opinion about the work carried out from the team until this moment? maybe a little more courage in power play would have given you some else satisfaction?
TJ: Generally We have work well enough, trying to cover all the points of the ice best as possible; you know, it’s a question of a second of distraction and you suffered a goal. It’s all so fast, if you lost some important second for any reason other players don’t forgive you the mistake and punish you immediately with a score. I know We have often a little fear of shooting; we have to resolve this problem, there’s nothing else to do!
HT: By the way, you are playing your best italian season; most of your scores have been very important because they arrived in the right time…what’s the secret to do a score like yours from the blue line?
TJ: No secrets, it’s easy to say that during power play everyone try to find the perfect hole; I personally do all my strong to my arm and the rest comes natural. It’s a coincidence my scores arrive from the blue line, I’m always in that position, so…you know it’s obviously!
HT: Despite the hard period passed at the beginning of the season because of the death of Darcy you have been able to react with determinationa and pride, but then all the injuries happened to your teammates have stopped the strongness all the team for a couple of games…how have you passed all that?
TJ: It has been very difficoult as you know, Darcy was our thinking, we played and are playing for him, all the time, but the first periods our mind was somewhere else, not here, but we decided someday we had to go on for him, just for him, for his memory! We have played for a couple of games with only 2 lines, it has been to tiring, all my teammates were very tired, it was impossible to continue in that way…in fact, in the first part of the season we haven’t played very good, better in the second half of the season!
HT: All the season was very intense, some team has played a fantastic regulare season for example your previous team, Renon: what’s for you the winning mixed to get that aim?
TJ: Renon is certainly a very strong team, there are a lot of foreigner players very interesting and old italian at a good level, then they have a marvellous goalie…secret is having at disposal a good combination of strong foreigner players and at the same time good italian players, to make a perfect mix. Think about for example I’ll be italian the next year, Damian Surma too, so there will be two places empty for new foreigner players and at the same time our young players will continue to grow up, because we have a couple of interesting players you know…Matteo Tessari, Basso, Testa, it’s just necessary they do all their best to get better themselves!
HT: Would you like to give some advice to the insiders to get better italian hockey situation at the moment?
TJ: First of all I talk about the youngers in Canada, just to make you understand well: In Canada we have junior league, maybe the best of the world, in which guys can grow up how they want and how they can. Level there is very high, while here in Italy boys has no chance to show all their skills, because it’s a question of quality in the championships. I’m sure if for istance Matteo Tessari would have gone in Canada for a period and then He would have come back He would be very changed; faster, more technical, another way of playing ice hockey…in Canada it’s different the way to behave with the hockey! The insiders may change something like that, metods of training and so on!
HT: Tell me please, what’s you secret wish? Can you tell in advance if we will see you the next year still in Asiago’
TJ: My secret wish (no more is secret from now!) is to win the championship, also in Asiago… as for as the second question I answer telling you i’m sure to come back the next year and maybe another year, it depends…but Asiago is very beautiful city, so I love it!
