HT: Ciao Frank, lasciamelo dire questo, finalmente la prima vittoria! E’ stata una gara spettacolare, due tempi vissuti in equilibrio e poi un periodo finale che vi ha visto affondare il colpo sul malcapitato Renon…la voglia di vincere era troppo forte vero?
FD: Si, troppo forte, è stato importante vincere per la squadra, per il coach, soprattutto dopo quello che è successo all’inizio della stagione a Darcy. Abbiamo voluto i due punti per lui; ogni partita è importante perchè abbiamo la possibilità di onorarlo come meglio possibile, vale a dire giocando per lui. Pensiamo a lui in ogni istante, dobbiamo quindi impegnarci sempre al massimo e lavorare duro, cosi le vittorie sicuramente arriveranno.
HT: Hai un palmares sportivo molto ricco: statistiche alla mano risulta che tu abbia disputato più di 600 partite e realizzato più di 450 punti, con una media di circa 0,75 punti a partita. Numeri molto buoni considerando anche la tua età, quali i segreti per raggiungere tali traguardi?
FD: Mi piace pensare che amo praticare questo sport, nonostante i miei 33 anni sto ancora giocando ad alti livelli, questo significa che ancora questo sport mi diverte. Io voglio solo lavorare duro, poi se segno ben venga altrimenti non importa. A questo punto della mia carriera il goal stesso ha poco valore, a 33 anni voglio vincere e aiutare i giovani giocatori a crescere. Ad ogni modo la vittoria è sempre divertente…qualsiasi sia lo sport che tu pratichi!
HT: Dopo appena un mese di allenamenti, quali impressioni sei riuscito a farti sul gruppo? Che clima regna all’interno dello spogliatoio, alleggiano grandi ambizioni o tenete i piedi per terra?
FD: I ragazzi giovani vogliono lavorare duro, vogliono imparare, e come ti ho detto pocanzi è questo quello che devono fare se vogliono diventare qualcuno. Devono dare il meglio di se stessi ad ogni gara, sia che si vinca sia che si perda. Penso sia la cosa più importante, perché fra due tre anni loro saranno dei giocatori chiave per questa squadra, o comunque per l’intero movimento hockeyistico. Noi vorremmo vincere ogni partita, ma purtroppo non è sempre possibile, ma vogliamo crescere, imparare dai nostri errori come detto prima, quindi costruire piano piano la nostra forza.
HT: Quale tra le tue esperienze passate ritieni ti abbia dato più possibilità di crescita e di maturazione?
FD: Inizia tutto quando cresci con i tuoi genitori, io ad esempio ho vissuto con mia mamma perché i miei sono divorziati, ho imparato a rispettare le persone, a trattare gli altri come loro trattano te, in questo modo poi impari pure nello sport a prendere tutto come viene.
HT: E’ la tua prima stagione ad Asiago, quali sono le motivazioni che ti hanno spinto ad affrontare questa nuova esperienza?
FD: Prima di tutto, quando sentii che Jimmy (Camazzola) sarebbe stato l’allenatore, io decisi di venire. Veramente io avevo già un contratto con il Pontebba per altri due anni, però loro sono stati molto gentili a lasciarmi andare, a permettermi di seguire questa nuova strada. Conosco Jimmy, so che è un bravissimo uomo, ti fa lavorare e ti riprende quando c’è bisogno di farlo, è un uomo corretto. Ho voluto venire qui perché il loro progetto di far crescere i giovani locali lo ritengo molto interessante, ammirevole, mi riconosco in questo, e voglio anch’io dare il mio contributo a questa causa. Era il mio sogno venire qui, mi ricordo dieci anni fa in semifinale contro il Vipiteno che li battemmo e fu davvero straordinaria quella partita. Poi la ricca storia di questo team, 70 anni di vita, io voglio far parte di questa storia per i prossimi due anni poi vedremo per il futuro.
HT: Ultima domanda, questa vittoria a chi la dedicate?
FD: Ogni volta che siamo rientrati dallo spogliatoio vedevamo la sua maglietta appesa al muro e pensavamo a lui, a Darcy, a quanto ci manca. Ad ogni partita lui sarà sempre con noi, nei nostri cuori, qualunque cosa accadrà noi penseremo sempre a lui.

HT: Hi Frank, please let me say this: Finally a victory! It has been a great match, very balanced, but in the last period you and your mates have been able to give the right stroke.. you really wanted to win this game with all your fource, or not?
FD: Yes, it was too important for us, win for the team, for the coach, especially after all is happened at the beginning of the season to Darcy. We wanted to win for him, every game is important because we have the possibility to honour him as much as possible, playing for him and with him. We think about him all the time, we have to work hard and get better at every game, and wins will come.
HT: Your palmares is very full: if we give a look at your numbers it’s amazing seeing you played more of 600 games and made more of 450 points, about 0,75 goal each game. A very good result thinking about your age, whicha re the secrets to get this aims?
FD: I like thinking I love this kind of sport, even if I have 33 years old I’m still playing at high levels, that means I still enjoy this sport. I just wanna work hard, get better every game, if then I score ok, otherwise the goal is not so important. At this point of my sport life, I wanna win and help young players to grow up. Anyway, win is always funny, doesn’t matter which sport you play!
HT: After a month of practices, which is your opinion about the group? Which climate is there inside the dressing room, do you want to get important aims or prefer to play game by game?
FD: Young players want to work hard, the want to learn a lot, and just I said before that is what they have to do if they wanna be somebody. They have to give the best of themselves everytime, even if you lose or win. I think that’s the most important thing, because in two or three years they are going to be the keys players of this team, or anyway for the entire Italian hockey! We would like to win every game, but it’s not possible you know, but we want to grow up, to learn from our mistakes, so building our force step by step.
HT: Which between your previous experiences has been the best for you life, that helped you to grow up?
FD: It starts when you grow up with your parents, for example I grew up with my mother, because my parents are divorced, I learned to respect people and treat them as you are treated, in this way you learn also how to behave in your sport life. That’s simple to say!
HT: It’s your first season in Asiago, why have you decide to come to play for this team?
FD: First of all, when I hard Jimmy was the new coach I decide to come. Actually I still had a contract for two years with Pontebba, but the have been very kind to let me go away. I know Jimmy, he’s a really good man, he makes you work hard and get angry with you when it’s necessary. I wanted to come here because the project for the young players I think is very interesting, I recognize my self in that, and I absolutely want to give a hand to this very important project! My dream was to come to play for this team, I remember 10 year ago, I was playing for Vipiteno and in the semi final we beat Asiago, such a incredible game! Then the such rich of this city, of this team, 70 years of age, I want to be a part of this story for almost two years, then we will think about the future!
HT: last question, this win is for somebody in particular?
FD: Oh yeah, every time we went back into the dressing room and we saw his shirt down there we thought about him, about Darcy, because we miss him. Every game will be in this way, he will always be in our hearts, doesn’t matter what will happen, we will always think about him!
