HockeyTime.netDomenica 30 Settembre sarà sicuramente una data che rimarrà impressa nella memoria del goalie dei Ducks Jonas Hiller: è infatti la serata che ha visto il suo esordio in NHL tra l’altro coronato da una vittoria per la sua squadra, una prestazione più che brillante e il riconoscimento dei media come terza stella della serata.
Hiller è il quarto portiere (dopo Aebisher, Gerber e Jaks) che, nato in Svizzera, veste la casacca di un team NHL e se questo è solo l’inizio, aspettiamoci grandi cose da questa giovane promessa europea.
Abbiamo avuto l’occasione di fare alcune domande all’ex portiere del Davos.
Hockeytime: Ciao Jonas, prima di tutto congratulazioni per il tuo debutto in NHL, sei stato nominato terza stella della partita e per una gara di esordio non è per niente male…
E’ stato fantastico, ho cercato di dare il massimo e sono molto soddisfatto anche del premio che mi è stato riservato. Voglio continuare a giocare in questo modo e cercare così di iniziare da titolare per il maggior numero di partite possibili.
HT: Che cosa ne pensi dei Ducks di questa sera? L’approccio alla partita sembrava diverso rispetto a quello del match di esordio…
JH: Credo che stasera, a differenza della partita di esordio siamo stati capaci di fare molto più pressing nell’area dei Kings e di concretizzare molto di più. Abbiamo poi fatto un ottimo lavoro in difesa ed abbiamo evitato di commettere l’errore chiave che ha garantito la vittoria ai Kings sabato, ovvero prendere troppe penalità inutili.
HT: Tu vieni da un mondo completamente diverso dalla NHL, quali sono le principali differenze che noti tra il campionato NHL e la lega Svizzera?
JH: Bè il modo di giocare è sicuramente diverso, nella NHL lo stile è quello di tirare molto frequentemente in porta mentre invece nel campionato Svizzero si tende di più ad un gioco fatto di passaggi. Di conseguenza in NHL il gioco è molto più veloce e non c’è molto tempo per studiare bene l’avversario e le sue possibili mosse. Questo significa che nel campionato Nordamericano bisogna stare sempre attenti all’avversario ed essere pronti ad un suo possibile tiro in porta.
Questa è sicuramente una delle cose di cui dovrò abituarmi ma siccome per me essere parte di una squadra di NHL è un sogno che si realizza sono ben contento di adattarmi a questo nuovo “modo” di giocare.
HT: Infine ti chiediamo una domanda “di rito”…come ti è sembrato iniziare la stagione NHL in Europa?
JH: Devo dire che è stata proprio una bella esperienza! La cosa bellissima è stato il fatto che grazie a questo esordio europeo la mia famiglia e la mia ragazza hanno potuto assistere al mio primo match NHL dal vivo. Inoltre ho notato una grande quantità di fans proveniente dalla Svizzera e questo mi ha emozionato davvero e mi ha reso ancora più orgoglioso di essere Svizzero.

Jonas Hiller will sure remember Sunday September 30th 2007: it’s the day when he got to start as a goalie in the NHL, a debut marked by a brilliant performance as well as the third star of the game awarded to him by the media .
Hiller is the fourth Swiss goalie to play in the NHL along with Aebisher, Gerber and Jaks and we have to say that if this is only his first NHL game we can only expect great things from this former Davos goalie.
We had the chance to ask the Swiss a couple of questions.
Hockeytime: Hi Jonas, first of all congratulations for your performance on your first ever NHL game, you have been nominated as third star of the game and that’s not bad as a start…
Jonas Hiller: Hi and thanks a lot. I am very satisfied of my performance, playing in the NHL has always been a dream for me and now it has finally come true!
It has been great, I did my best and I am very happy of the outcome. I want to keep on playing this way and try to start on as many games as I can.
HT: What do you think of your Ducks tonight? It seemed like you had a different approach than last night (Saturday, i.e.)…
JH: Well, I think that tonight we were able to put much more pressure on the Kings and we were able to capitalize a lot. Another thing that we avoided to do was getting too many penalties which is something that made us lose control of Saturday’s game.
HT: You come from a totally different world than the NHL, that is the Swiss Elite League: can you tell us which are the main differences that you found between playing in Europe and North America?
JH: Well, the way of playing is totally different: in the NHL there’s more shooting than passing which doesn’t allow you much time to study the opponent’s intentions. Therefore you always have to be aware that the guy who is handling the puck in that moment can always take a chance and shoot.
Of course this is something that I have to get used to but as I told you, playing in the NHL is a dream come true for me and I am willing to do whatever it takes to improve my skills and keep on playing in this great League.
HT: Finally we’d like to ask you the “typical” NHL Premiere Series question, how did you like playing in London?
JH: I have to say that it has been a wonderful experience! The great thing was that since the NHL started in Europe also my family and my girlfriend were able to see my first NHL hockey game live! I also noticed a lot of Swiss fans and that made me feel very proud of being a Swiss player playing in the National Hockey League.
