Matt Gorman giudica la stagione delle Aquile—Matt Gorman looks back at Aquile’s season

One week has already gone since Aquile’s last game in their first appearance into the serie A1 league and we had the chance to talk a bit with top scorer Matt Gorman about this new experience for the team as well as some hockey-talking regarding his hometown’s kind of hockey: the NHL!

HT: Hi Matt, let’s start from the last game your team has played: it didn’t mean that much since Aquile were already out of the play off picture but it seems that you have tried so bad to score but you couldn’t make it.
MG: Well, I think we tried so hard to win the game, it was our last one this season so we put all of our energies on the ice but we couldn’t win it, we wanted to do it for the fans but that’s too bad we couldn’t make it. As for me I did what I could to score but it wouldn’t go in!

HT: How would you judge Aquile’s season?
MG: We had our ups and downs, you know, positive games and negative ones. We stuck together and tried to do our best but unfortunately lately the results didn’t come out as we expected.

HT: What did this experience in the maximum league bring to the team?
MG: Well, our team has a lot of young players so I think that this experience helped them to grow and improve. Many of them will be here also for the next season so this is really good because they will already be united and they can build a solid group as well as a strong team…I think we will see a lot of positives in the future.

HT: Looking bad at the Relegation Round, what would you save and what does the team have to change in the future?
MG: Well, we had shown some pretty good hockey at the beginning of the season and everything was going the way that we wanted to, but then in this Relegation round we lost almost every game and that was pretty tough to swallow for all the guys. So I would say that losing was the negative part of the season: we tried to fight every game but it didn’t go through, so in the future we have to do whatever it takes in order to keep winning games and avoid these long losing streaks.

HT: Who do would you define as Pontebba’s MVP this year?
MG: Carpano! Carpy has always played great and he helped us a lot in winning the games. That’s too bad we couldn’t put the games together for him. Without him the Aquile wouldn’t have been this good.

HT: Is there anything you would like to say to the fans?
MG: The fans, like I always say, are great! They always cheer for us every time we play here at home but they also follow us when we play away and this is really remarkable so I want to thank them from myself and on behalf of the guys as well. Too bad we couldn’t go further to the play offs, I am sure they would have loved it.

HT: This is the second year that you have played here in Pontebba, would you consider staying here for one more year?
MG: Yes of course, I do have a contract of one more year with the Aquile. Now my wife, daughter and I will go back to Canada because I have some family business to take care of. There’s a good chance that I will be playing in Pontebba next year as well and no matter what happens this team and this people will always be in my heart.

HT: Now let’s talk about the NHL…do you have any favourite teams?
MG: I like the Flames and the Oilers. I don’t have a specific team that I cheer for but I do like some specific players. I would have to say that I stick with the Alberta teams…the cup belongs to Alberta!!!

HT: Who do you think is going to win the Stanley Cup?
MG: I don’t think Edmonton has much of a chance to make it to the play offs especially after Ryan Smyth has gone to New York so I hope the Flames will fight through.

HT: Who do you think is going to be this year’s MVP?
MG: I definitely have to say Sidney Crosby, he’s a young kid but he is playing great.

We’d like to thank SG Pasut Aquile F.V.G. Pontebba and Matt Gorman for their kind availability.
