Intervista a Kimmo Eronen – Interview with Kimmo Eronen

KE: Questa esperienza a Pontebba mi è piaciuta molto!

HockeyTime: Hi Kimmo, first of all how would you judge team Aquile’s performances in their first serie A1 season?
Kimmo Eronen: I think that we have played well some games but we didn’t do the same in others. It seemed like if we were in a rollercoaster ride. We had ups and downs throughout the entire season but I think it’s normal for a team who plays for the first time in the first division. If we want to play like the teams in the Master Round we need to be constantly on a winning streak.

HT: What about personally, are you satisfied of your performances this year (6 goals and 15 assists)?
KE: To be honest I am not too satisfied of myself, I think I could have played better and gotten more points so that is my goal for the future.

HT: What did your team lack in this final round?
KE: We didn’t play good that is for sure, and I can’t explain what went wrong, maybe we were too tired physically. We will discuss about this negative thing that happened so that we’ll be able to improve next season.

HT: Do you miss a player like Stefanka in the team?
KE: Yes we do, he was a great guy in the locker room and an awesome teammate on the ice. You could feel that he was missing in our defence.

HT: What about your new teammate Panteleievs?
KE: He has a lot of qualities, and I think that the most important one is his experience, as a matter of fact he played in his national team as well as many important and difficult leagues such as the NHL.

HT: Who impressed you the most among your teammates and who among the serie A1 teams?
KE: As for my team, I don’t have a name but I can say that every single one has done a great job. As for the Serie A1 teams, Helfer from Team Milano impressed me the most, and in my opinion he is the best defenceman in the Italian league.

HT: In your native Finland many young guys are drafted to the NHL, what about here in Italy? How far are we from drafting young Italian guys such as Lutz?
KE: I don’t know, honestly it is very hard to tell. You have to be very lucky: you have to be in the right place at the right time. Guys like Lutz need to work very hard in order to enter the draft and the League is so much different from this one that we are playing in, though I wish him all the luck that he needs!

HT: What are the main differences between playing in Finland and playing in Italy for a young guy?
KE: First of all in Finland the young guys start to play hockey when they are children and the hockey culture there is much more developed than over here. We have people coaching the kids ever since they are small so that growing up they are very much skilled. Also they practise not only with the team but also by themselves differently than here where the young guys only practise for a couple of hours at the rink.

HT: What about the main differences between the coaching methods in the Italian and in the Finnish league?
KE: Well, I can say that I like the way our coach helps us out, it is pretty much like the methods used in Finland.

HT: What about the referees here in Italy and there in Finland?
KE: I rather not talk about it (smiles)…I might get suspended!

HT: Finally, did you like it here in Pontebba? Would you like to stay for another season?
KE: Yes, I liked it so much but I have to see: I am living alone here and my family is still in Finland, they came to visit me a couple of times but of course is not like having your family here all the time. We’ll see, I like this little town and his people: they are really nice and friendly so I hope I can stay for one more year.
