HockeyTime: Prima di tutto congratulazioni per la tua prestazione contro il Val Pusteria. Ci puoi dire le tue impressioni sulla partita?
Frank DeFrenza: Grazie, è sempre bello segnare quando si vince, ma sicuramente la cosa più importante è aver portato a casa i due punti. Posso dire che abbiamo giocato un buon primo periodo ed un buon terzo periodo mentre nel secondo non abbiamo sicuramente reso al meglio: non ci siamo mossi bene e non abbiamo pattinato come sappiamo e così ci siamo trovati in difficoltà e quindi i nostri avversari si sono resi pericolosi. Per fortuna durante il terzo periodo ci siamo ripresi e siamo stati in grado di fare la partita ma dobbiamo renderci conto che ci sono sessanta minuti di gioco e non quaranta.
HT: La squadra è sembrata un pò stanca negli ultimi dieci minuti del terzo periodo…
Frank DeFrenza: Secondo me no, durante la settimana lavoriamo sodo per essere al meglio ed affrontare la partita senza queste preoccupazioni quindi il merito va al tipo di gioco che ha fatto il Val Pusteria: ci hanno infatti intrappolati spingendoci indietro nella nostra area e quindi abbiamo dovuto adattarci al loro modo di giocare in modo tale da non dare loro troppe occasioni per segnare. A prima vista poteva sembrare che fossimo stanchi e rallentassimo ma in realtà era una strategia di gioco.
HT: Il vostro power play è stato brillante, secondo te che cosa lo ha reso tale?
Frank DeFrenza: Beh, lavoriamo per migliorare il power play ogni giorno durante gli allenamenti. Quando il nostro coach Misha giocava a hockey era un grande capitalizzatore e quindi in allenamento introduce sempre nuove tecniche e nuove cose da provare.
HT: Quindi cerca di insegnarvi tutti i "trucchi" del mestiere…
Frank DeFrenza: Sicuramente! Come ho detto facciamo molte prove durante gli allenamenti e se poi funziona anche in gara allora è fantastico!
HT: Chi tra i tuoi compagni ti ha colpito di più durante la gara con il Val Pusteria?
Frank DeFrenza: Sicuramente direi Andrea Carpano, ha parato molti tiri soprattutto durante il secondo periodo. E’ vero che il Val Pusteria ha anche segnato ma in alcuni di quei goal il nostro portiere non poteva farci niente, in ogni caso è sempre stato in grado di tenerci in partita e questa sera è stato molto bravo.
HT: Sia il Milano che il Bolzano hanno perso e quindi i 2 punti conquistati sono molto "pesanti": con questa vittoria le Aquile hanno fatto un bel balzo in avanti in classifica.
Frank DeFrenza: E’ molto bello per la nostra squadra. A noi non interessa molto quanto bene stiano andando le altre squadre, ma principalmente focalizziamo l’attenzione sulla nostra squadra: vogliamo che i nostri avversari temano di venire a giocare qui a Pontebba perchè devono sapere che noi daremo il massimo per cercare di vincere e di fare il maggior numero di punti in casa. Se poi riusciamo a raccogliere anche qualche punto in trasferta potremo essere in grado di qualificarci per i play offs.

HockeyTime: First of all congratulations for your performance against Val Pusteria, can you tell us your impression on the game?
Frank DeFrenza: Thanks, it’s always nice to score when you win the game but getting the two points is the most important thing. I can say that we did play a good first period and third period but during the second we didn’t play our game: we didn’t move well, we didn’t skate and we got in trouble since they were able to become more aggressive. Luckily we came back during the third period and we were able to play our game but we have to realize that the game is 60 minutes long, not 40.
HT: Was the team a little tired during the last ten minutes of the third period?
Frank DeFrenza: I don’t think so, we usually work very hard during the week to get ready for each game, it was just the way Val Pusteria played: they trapped us and forced us to go back in our own area so we had to adjust to their kind of game and try not to give our opponents too many chances to score. That may have looked like we were sort of slowing down but we had the game planned.
HT: Your power play was successful, what made it so brilliant?
Frank DeFrenza: Well, we work on it everyday during our practise session and we also try new things. When Misha, our coach, used to play he was a great scorer so he always wants to introduce new techniques and new things to try.
HT: He tries to teach you all the tricks then…
Frank DeFrenza: Yes he does! Like I said we try everything during practise and if it works also during the game it’s fantastic!
HT: Who among your teammates impressed you the most in the game versus Val Pusteria?
Frank DeFrenza: I would definitely say Andrea Carpano, he took a lot of shots especially in the second period. The other team got some goals but our goalie didn’t have a chance to stop some of them, however he always kept us in the game and he was great tonight.
HT: Both Milano and Bolzano lost so with this two points team Aquile made a big step up in the standings.
Frank DeFrenza: It’s nice for our team. We don’t really care about how well the other teams are doing, we care about ourselves first: we want our opponents to hate coming to Pontebba since we want them to know that they will have to play harder and they will have to skate faster than us. We also want them to realize that playing here is always going to be a tough road trip because we want to win as many points as we can in our home ice and if we can also get some points on the road we will eventually make it to the play offs.
