Intervista a Matt Gorman – Interview with Matt Gorman

HockeyTime: Ci puoi descrivere com’era l’atmosfera negli spogliatoi prima della partita?
Matt Gorman: Era molto tranquilla, ogni giocatore si stava concentrando sulla partita. Eravamo un po’ tesi all’inizio ma dopo tra il primo ed il secondo periodo ci siamo rilassati.

HT: Secondo te, considerando come hanno giocato le Aquile contro l’Alleghe, quali sono i vostri punti di debolezza e dove dovete quindi migliorare?
MG: Penso che dobbiamo sicuramente migliorare il nostro gioco in difesa in quanto non si è mai abbastanza forti in questo reparto, chi gioca più avanzato deve aiutare i difensori quando c’è bisogno e poi dobbiamo migliorare in molte altre cose come evitare di perdere il puck regalandolo quindi agli avversari.

HT: Non hai segnato contro l’Alleghe ma sei comunque stato in grado di creare scompiglio alla loro difesa: pensi che quest’anno ti dedicherai più ad aiutare la squadra a creare molte opportunità per fare gol piuttosto che puntare al titolo di top scorer della squadra?
MG: Credo che durante il corso di tutta la stagione sarà importante sia creare occasioni da goal che segnare, sono certo che ci saranno delle partite in cui segnerò ed altre in cui sarò in grado solo di aiutare i miei compagni nel gioco difensivo, questo è anche quello che succede di solito nelle partite di hockey: a volte si riesce solo a passare il puck, altre invece si segnano un paio di goal.

HT: Quali sono le differenze principali tra il gioco in serie A2 l’anno scorso e quello in A1 quest’anno?
MG: Credo che la differenza principale sta nel fatto che quest’anno le squadre sono più competitive: si gioca con tre e a volte anche quattro linee mentre l’anno scorso si giocava solo con due linee, di conseguenza le squadre sono più forti e ad ogni partita bisogna dare il massimo.

HT: Come ci si sente a giocare sul ghiaccio amico la prima partita in serie A1 nella storia delle Aquile e vincerla?
MG: Beh, non c’è niente di meglio! E poi voglio ringraziare tutti i tifosi perché sono sempre presenti e ci supportano mettendoci il loro cuore e questo per noi giocatori significa molto.

HT: Come sta la piccola Madison?
MG:Madison sta benissimo, ha iniziato a mangiare cibi solidi e cresce molto in fretta, è sicuramente un grande cambiamento nella mia vita.

HT: Pensi che imparerà a parlare l’italiano?
MG: Sì,lo spero! Forse imparerà a parlare anche un po’ di tedesco…un po’ di friulano…tutto è possibile!

HockeyTime: Can you tell us how was the atmosphere before the game in the locker room?
Matt Gorman: It was pretty quiet, everybody was focusing on the game, it was a bit nervous at first but then at the end of the first period we relaxed.

HT: Looking at the way Aquile played their season opener, where do you think the team has to improve?
MG: I think we can improve in our defensive game for sure, you are never strong enough in this area, the forwards need to play in defence when there’s need, we have to learn not to lose the puck and so on.

HT: You haven’t scored against Alleghe but you have created a lot of trouble in their own area, so do you think that this year you will focus more in creating lots of scoring chances rather than being the scoring leader?
MG: I think that throughout the season it will be important to do both, I am sure that there will be games where I will score a couple of goals and others where I will just help my teammates in the defensive zone, that’s the way it goes, sometimes you only play to help passing the puck, some other times you get to score.

HT: Which are the main differences that you have found between playing in the serie A2 last year and the first division this season?
MG: I think that the main difference is that this year the teams are more rounded, they have three maybe four lines while last year the team was made up of only two lines and so they are a little stronger so every game is tough to play.

HT: How does it feel to play for the first time in Pontebba’s history in the first Italian division in front of your home fans and win the game also?
MG: You know, there’s nothing better! Our fans are there to support us each and every game and I want to thank them because they cheer their heart out and that means a lot for us.

HT: How is your little daughter Madison doing?
MG: Madison is great! She started eating solid foods and she is growing up fast, it’s a big change in my life.

HT: Is she going to learn how to speak Italian?
MG: Yes, I hope so! Maybe she will learn to speak also some German…some Friulano…anything is possible!
