Intervista a Francesco DeFrenza – Interview with Francesco DeFrenza

The name of the Italian Canadian ice hockey player Francesco De Frenza will be known for a long time in team Aquile’s history and maybe it won’t ever be forgotten… afterall he scored the first ever goal in Team Aquile’s history in the first Italian Division, the serie A1!!!
De Frenza arrived in Friuli when training camp had already started but Frank, as his teammates call him, fitted right away and most important he became a fan favourite really soon.

HT: First of all congratulations for the great game that you have played (2 goals), you also scored the very first goal of team Aquile in the major Italian league, how does it feel?
DeFrenza: It feels great but winning the game was better for sure. People didn’t expect us to win but we’re a hard working team so if we keep on playing as a tight group we will have good chances to try winning also the next games.

HT: Why did you decide to play for Team Aquile Pontebba?
DeFrenza: To be honest it wasn’t going to play anymore, until I got an e mail from my agent asking me if I wanted to come to Pontebba. So I talked with Pontebba’s forward Matt Gorman on the phone and he told me good things about the organization, that is very professional, and that is when I decided to keep on playing one more time.

HT: Having already played in Italy, do you find any changes in the Italian league between those years and right now?
DeFrenza: The thing with the Italian League is that the rules on imports change all the time and when I played for Vipiteno I think we had approximately twelve imports and the next year they were about half so it’s kind of tough to adjust to a new way of playing with new team mates in very little time. The Italian players though are getting better and better and that makes a big difference on your team also because they put their hearts on each game and they want to win because the Italian Championship means a lot to them.

HT: Do you feel comfortable with your new linemates?
DeFrenza: From the very first game that I played with Pontebba against Villach I played with Johan (Carlsson) and Vicktor (Jankovych) and we just gelled perfectly together and every game it feels better and better. It’s nice when you have good chemistry with your team mates right away, it makes the game much easier.
