HockeyTime.netHT: “Quali sono le differenze maggiori che hai notato tra l’hockey che si gioca in Nord America e quello che si gioca qui?”
RF: “Qui ci sono piste più grandi e quindi c’è più spazio. Sicuramente si può pattinare di più. Ma alla fine l’hockey è sempre l’hockey:”
HT: “Quali sono le ultime notizie che hai sul lockout della NHL?”
RF: “So che ci saranno degli incontri nelle prossime settimane. Dobbiamo solo aspettare e vedere cosa succede. Sinceramente spero che si possa trovare un accordo.”
HT: “Quali sono i problemi sul tavolo delle trattative, a parte il salary cap di cui si è molto parlato?”
RF: “Il problema è che la lega e i propietari vogliono togliere alcuni dei privilegi che i giocatori oramai hanno. Siamo arrivati ad avere queste cose grazie ai nostri sforzi, alle nostre prestazioni sul ghiaccio. Non è semplice togliere a qualcuno qualcosa che ha conquistato duramente.”
RF: “Mi piace. Sono qui per divertirmi e tenermi in forma. E’ un’esperienza importante nella mia vita perchè mi permette di giocare un hockey un po’ diverso, di vedere una nazione nuova. Qui ti alleni due volte al giorno ma poi hai molto tempo per stare a casa, cosa che in America non succede. Sono contento di essere qui e di come le cose stanno andando. Ovvio se dovesse ripartire la NHL sarei ben contento di tornarci, ma se anche le cose dovessero continuare in questo modo, non mi dispiacerebbe.”
HT: “Che possibilità ha l’Asiago di vincere il campionato?”
RF: “Abbiamo una squadra davvero buona. Negli ultimi tempi abbiamo avuto qualche problema e non sono venuti i risultati. Penso che aver ottenuto un punto con il Milano sia un buon segnale per capire che abbiamo fatto dei passi avanti.”
HT: “Cosa ne pensi del livello dei giocatori italiani?”
RF: “Sinceramente quando sono arrivato non sapevo cosa aspettarmi. Posso dire che lavorano davvero tanto, sono presenti agli allenamenti e si impegnano molto. Fanno il loro lavoro così come dovrebbe essere fatto e credo che sia questo il motivo per cui poi in Italia c’è un campionato tanto competitivo.”
HT: “L’hockey italiano negli ultimi anni è stato caratterizzato da luci e ombre, pensi che si sia ad un buon punto per avere un hockey di un certo livello in Italia nelle stagioni a venire?”
RF: “Penso che l’hockey possa crescere definitivamente in Italia. Ovvio che è fondamentale che ci sia una certa disponibilità economica. Ci sono team come Milano, Asiago, Bolzano, Cortina, anche Varese, che sono davvero squadre di buon livello. L’hockey è lo sport più veloce in assoluto, non ti capiterà mai di veder fare due volte lo stesso goal, perciò credo che ci siano ottime prospettive.”
HT: “Cosa puoi dirci della situazione dei Penguins? Pensi che sarete in grado di tornare ai vertici a breve?”
RF: “Ci sono stati dei problemi e altri ce ne sono. Sarà importante avere un nuovo stadio a Pittsburgh per consentirci di avere più spettatori dei 13000/14000 attuali. So che Mario vuole assolutamente che ci si muova in questo senso. Per quanto riguarda la squadra, abbiamo tanti giovani di talento come Ryan Malone, Konstantin Koltsov, Milan Kraft e Tomas Surovy. Ovvio siamo giovani e quindi commettiamo peccati di inesperienza, ma credo che potremo portare, a breve, i Penguins ai livelli che meritano.”

HT: “Which are the greatest differences you’ve found between US leagues hockey and italian one?”
RF: “The game here has a lot more of skating, rinks are bigger, but you know hockey is hockey”
HT: “What about the NHL lockout? Is there any news you can tell us?”
RF: “As far as I know there’ll be some meetings in next weeks. We just have to see what happens. I’m hopefully the league and the players can find a deal”
HT: “Is there any further problem, besides the salary cap, to this deal?”
RF: “The problem is that owners want to take away a lot of privileges the players have. I think we’ve obtained some of them ’cause of our ability and our performances on the ice. It’s tough to take those things away.”
HT: “What about your experience here and what do you think of italian hockey?”
RF: “I like it. I’m here to have fun and play to stay in shape. It’s a great experience since you play different hockey, you see a new country. Lots of things are different because here you practiced twice a day and then you have lots of time to stay home. I really like my days here and the way things have been going. Of course i’ll be happy if i get back to NHL if season starts, but if it doesn’t happen for a while, i’ll be glad to carry on this way.”
HT: “Which are in your opinion the possibilities for Asiago to win the championship?”
RF: “We have a very good team. So i think we can play an important role. We’ve been through a hard period and did not have good results, but i think we’ve done a good match here against Milano and made an important step beyond:”
HT: ” What about italian players?”
RF: “Sincerely i didn’t know what to expect when i came. I can tell that they really work hard, this is their job, they come to the rink everyday to work extremely hard and that’s why the league is as competitive as it is.”
HT: “Italian hockey has been through a lot of highs and lows in past seasons, do you think now we are at a good starting point to have a good hockey in next years?”
RF: “I think that hockey can definely grow in Italy. Of course everything depends on money situation. I think teams as Asiago, Milano, Bolzano, Cortina, even Varese are really good team. Then you know, hockey is the fastest game, you never see a goal scored twice the same. So i think there are good possibilities to have good hockey here in the future.”
HT: “What about the Penguins? Do you think you can soon get back to the results the team deserves?”
RF: “One of the most important thing is having a new rink in Pittsburgh. I know Mario wants a new rink as to have more fans instead of 13000/14000 we have each game. As for the team we have many young good players as Ryan Malone, Konstantin Koltsov, Milan Kraft e Tomas Surovy. We are young, we make mistakes but i think we can bring the Penguins back to the results they had in the past.”
